Painting plays, music takes shape.
Two original compositions by Massimo Pividori and a work by Vittorio Menditto.
A dialogue between painting and music, presented by Omnium Art Department.
There is a moment in every creative process when image and sound seem to meet unexpectedly, as if they speak the same language. This is exactly what happened between the painting “Vorticity” by Vittorio Menditto and two unreleased tracks composed by master accordionist Massimo Pividori, soon to be available on major music platforms, thanks to Omnium Art Department RECORDS.
“Vorticity” is a canvas that pulses with fluid, concentric energy: swift and soft currents, forms that chase and attract one another like a silent dance. An image that evokes movement, rhythm, breath.
The inspiration for the two compositions arose precisely from observing this work.
“By looking at the shapes in the painting, I found the timing of the music” – explains Pividori – “and from the colors, the notes emerged. It was a deeply emotional impact, almost ancestral. The rhythm of the instrumental version, its tone and melodic theme developed naturally, intertwining with the lines and vibrations of the canvas. The second piece follows the same path: it doesn’t interpret, it absorbs. The colors become sound, the brushstrokes become rhythm. Painting and music don’t explain one another, they reflect each other”.
And if the music expresses the sense of movement, that same impulse is also the origin of the painting’s inspiration, as the artist himself reveals:
“My paralyzed body is like an engine without a transmission. Yet the strength of the soul can elevate this ‘weakness.’ Through constant stimulation, a passion for art, sincere relationships and the ability to set, and sometimes reach, goals, life’s hardships can be faced and overcome. I wanted to convey the sensation of movement that my body has long lost. Sinuous, vortex-like forms; sounds that begin and end in unison, representing a shared momentum toward the hope of future rebirth”.
To complete the EP, a bonus track: “Evolution”, also composed by Massimo Pividori, layered over indie/chill beats by Roberto Michelizza. The piece opens new expressive possibilities for the accordion, a genre-crossing track with international flair, blending warm, passionate sounds that evoke the golden-hour ambiance of Ibiza sunsets in Sant Antoni.
“Vorticity” thus becomes not just a title, but a starting point for a dialogue between the arts, a convergence of sensitivities and languages that merge into one emotional vibration, made possible by Omnium Art Department, a promoter of artistic projects that cross boundaries and spark new visions.
Omnium Art Department RECORDS is a non-profit music label: all proceeds from releases are donated to charitable organizations (pre-agreed with the artists themselves).
